900/800 Series Handmade Flutes
Headjoint
The Yamaha “Type A” headjoint enables flutists to achieve a vibrant sound across a broad dynamic range. The lip plate is designed to promote proper technique by offering optimal resistance. Additionally, the wall thickness has been slightly increased compared to other headjoint models—ranging from 0.35mm to 0.43mm for 9K gold, 0.30mm to 0.35mm for 18K gold, and 0.30mm to 0.43mm for 14K gold. This enhancement improves the headjoint's resonance and expressive capabilities.
Toneholes
The overall weight of the flute has been slightly increased by enhancing the thickness of the toneholes. This, along with a unique undercut tonehole design that pairs exclusively with soldered toneholes, allows the performer to explore a vibrant palette of sounds. The resulting resonance ensures a wide dynamic range, delivering the volume and presence essential for performing in professional orchestras.
Flat pad cups
The thicker and more durable key arms, along with the machined pad cups, offer greater stability compared to traditional-style pad cups. The flat design of the pad cup helps maintain pad conditions for an extended period. This enhanced stability allows the pad to respond more freely, resulting in a rich and desirable resonance.
Straubinger™ Pads
Straubinger™ Pads have been widely adopted for high quality handmade flutes because of their clear response, optimal resonance and precise seal. These pads are more resilient to environmental changes, allowing them to maintain peak playing condition for a longer duration.
Pinless left-hand key system (Available for YFL-897/997 only)
The high F-F# key movement is improved and much smoother due to a newly developed and innovative pinless left-hand key system.
Acoustic annealing
Yamaha Handmade flutes benefit from a special acoustic annealing process that enhances the transmission of vibrations from the player to the instrument. This results in a deep, mature sound and a clear response.
Case
The case is compact for easy travel and durable to protect the flute, and is accompanied by a sophisticated case cover. (Left: Handmade Gold, Right: Handmade Silver)
